The Hidden Development of a Brand-New US Air Force Fighter Jet Made In a Year

We tend to follow the big names when it comes to aircraft development, how they progress the field, and the improvements they’re giving not only to general consumers but many businesses and institutions. However, it turns out that the US Air Force has developed a next-generation fighter jet all within the span of a year. Accumulating the design, build, and test flying a prototype, without anybody knowing. The details of the aircraft are confidential but, the Air Force stated that “its part of an effort to develop air welfare systems – including drones, fighter jets, and space and cyber warfare”.

Will Roper, the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, mentions that they have “broke records” regarding new technologies they have built regarding building and flying full-scale flight demonstrators. “We are ready to go and build the next-generation aircraft in a way that has never happened before”. Within the Next Generation Air Dominance program, they have developed a virtual version of the jet, built a new place to supplement or replace the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, and integrate as much modern digital technologies as they can for the aircraft. By comparison, the well-known plane, F-35, took almost 10 years to develop to get to where it is today. There are other aircraft from other countries that have also taken a decade to develop, and yet the Air Force claims that the planes built under this program can challenge the F-35 plane all within a year.

Being the US Air Force, they have confidentiality about this plane, so where it flew, where it’s currently located, and many other aspects of the aircraft are still unknown. The only disclosed information was it’s single year development time, which hasn’t been seen in aircraft since World War II. We can only speculate on the type of aircraft it is, but if the technologies shortened aircraft development time, we could be seeing new aircraft popping up more frequently in the near future.
